Tanzania Removes Nigerians From Referred Visa Category, Eases Entry Procedures
The Tanzanian Immigration Services Department has announced a major change to its visa requirements for Nigerian citizens, officially removing Nigerians from the country’s Referred Visa Category.
The development was contained in a public notice issued by Tanzania’s Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration Services Department, dated September 25, 2026.

According to the notice, the decision followed amendments published in Government Gazette Number 246 of 2026, effectively ending the special referred visa restrictions previously applicable to Nigerian nationals travelling to Tanzania.
With the new policy taking immediate effect, Nigerians visiting Tanzania will no longer be required to undergo the referred visa process.
Instead, Nigerian travellers will now be able to follow Tanzania’s standard visa application procedures through the official immigration online portal or at designated entry points.
The change represents a significant adjustment to Tanzania’s immigration procedures for Nigerian nationals and is expected to make travel arrangements between Nigeria and Tanzania more straightforward.
The announcement was signed by ACI. Paul J. Mselle, Chief Spokesperson of the Tanzania Immigration Services Department.
Tanzanian authorities, however, advised travellers to follow the applicable standard visa procedures and requirements when making travel arrangements.
