SOKAPU To Kaduna Police Stop The Bloodshed Now As Southern Kaduna Reels From Fresh Massacre

The Southern Kaduna Peoples’ United Associations (SOKAPU) has issued a strong appeal to the Kaduna State Police Command, demanding immediate and decisive action to halt the wave of killings, abductions, and destruction of farmlands ravaging communities across Southern Kaduna.

In an open letter dated July 27, 2026, and addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State Command, SOKAPU President, Engr. Tabara Samuel Kato, expressed deep concern over what he described as the deteriorating security situation in several rural and agrarian communities, warning that residents are increasingly living under constant fear of attacks.

The association’s call comes in the wake of a deadly early-morning assault on Narido community in Kauru Local Government Area, where approximately 30 persons, including women and children, were reportedly killed.

Several others sustained varying degrees of injuries in what has become one of the latest tragic episodes in the region’s prolonged security crisis.

SOKAPU lamented that the attack occurred despite repeated assurances from security agencies and ongoing stakeholder engagements aimed at restoring peace across the area. The group noted that communities in Kajuru, Chikun, Kauru, and Zangon Kataf Local Government Areas continue to face persistent threats from armed criminal groups.

According to the association, the escalating violence has forced many families to flee their ancestral homes, leaving farmlands abandoned and livelihoods destroyed.

It warned that the continued attacks are deepening humanitarian concerns and threatening food production in the affected communities.

In its appeal, SOKAPU urged the police command to move beyond what it described as reactive responses and embrace a more proactive, intelligence driven security strategy capable of preventing attacks before they occur.

The association specifically called for the immediate deployment of Mobile Police units and specialized counter-terrorism operatives to vulnerable communities and forest corridors believed to serve as operational routes for criminal elements.

It also demanded sustained security patrols around farming settlements to guarantee safe access to farmlands, enabling residents to cultivate and harvest crops without fear of attacks, kidnappings, or extortion.

Furthermore, SOKAPU advocated intensified intelligence led operations aimed at identifying, tracking, and dismantling criminal hideouts and camps across the region, stressing that effective policing must focus on prevention rather than post-attack interventions.

The group equally urged security authorities to rebuild public trust through transparent communication, rapid response mechanisms, and stronger collaboration with local communities, particularly in remote rural areas where residents often complain of delayed security intervention during emergencies.

“The primary duty of the State remains the absolute protection of lives and property,” the association stated, emphasizing that safeguarding citizens is fundamental to governance and central to the peace and development agenda of Governor Uba Sani’s administration.

Copies of the letter were forwarded to Governor Uba Sani and other relevant stakeholders, as SOKAPU called on security agencies to treat the matter with utmost urgency and seriousness to prevent further loss of lives, displacement, and destruction across Southern Kaduna.

As grief and anxiety continue to spread across affected communities, residents and civil society groups are increasingly demanding stronger security measures and concrete actions capable of ending the cycle of violence that has plagued parts of Southern Kaduna for years.

For many families mourning loved ones in Narido and other affected communities, the appeal represents not only a call for justice but also a desperate plea for protection, peace, and the right to live without fear.
