President Tinubu Suffers Gaffe at APC Campaign Council Inauguration, Mistakenly Refers to Himself as Governor
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sparked attention after making a verbal gaffe during the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general election in Abuja on Wednesday.
The incident occurred as Tinubu addressed party leaders, members and other political stakeholders gathered for the inauguration of the council tasked with coordinating the ruling party’s campaign ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

While acknowledging party members and expressing appreciation to some individuals present at the event, the President appeared to mistakenly describe himself as a governor rather than the incumbent president.
In his remarks, Tinubu spoke about the role of the Presidential Campaign Council’s Director-General and the party’s objective of securing another term in office.
Every second brings Nigerians closer to exercising their democratic right and shaping the future of our nation.
Exercise your democratic right responsibly, peacefully and lawfully.
However, in outlining the campaign’s mission, he used wording that suggested the council would work to bring Governor Bola Tinubu back for a second term.

The apparent slip of the tongue quickly became a notable moment during the political gathering, given that Tinubu served as governor of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007 before becoming president in 2023.
The inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council marks a significant step in the ruling party’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election, as Tinubu seeks re-election for a second term.
The incident has drawn attention to the President’s choice of words during the high-profile event, adding an unexpected moment to a gathering focused on consolidating the APC’s political structures and mobilising support for the forthcoming election.
