Police Pay N39.97m Welfare Cheques to Families of 51 Deceased Officers

September 17, () – The Nigeria Police Force has released N39.97 million in welfare assistance to families and next-of-kin of 51 deceased police officers in Akwa Ibom State, in a fresh intervention aimed at supporting dependants of personnel who died in active service.

The cheques, totalling N39,967,409.28, were presented to the beneficiaries on Wednesday by the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police.

The beneficiaries comprise families and next-of-kin of police officers who served the Force and the nation before their deaths, with the intervention intended to provide financial support to those left behind.

Addressing the beneficiaries during the presentation, Azare said the financial assistance could not replace the lives of the deceased officers but represented the Force’s appreciation of their service and sacrifice.

He said the Nigeria Police Force had a responsibility to support the families of officers who died in the course of their service, assuring the beneficiaries that the Force had not forgotten their loved ones.

The commissioner conveyed the condolences of the Inspector-General of Police and the entire Akwa Ibom State Command to the bereaved families, while assuring them of continued support and solidarity.

Azare urged the beneficiaries to use the money prudently, particularly for the welfare, education and development of their families and dependants.

The beneficiaries included Edidiong Enoh Umoh, Edidiong Umem Okon, Praise Ochanya Paul, David Umem Okon, Emem Enoh Umoh, Eno Obong Monday I, Nwobodo Nwanganga, Uwakiafoe Itoro Udo, Favour Miracle I, Emem Udak Okon, Godspower Udak Okon, Emmanuel Ndiereka A. Rose Ndifreke Archbong and Stephen Meshak Ugo, among others.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Aniedi Joseph Etuk expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police and the Akwa Ibom Commissioner of Police for prioritising the welfare of families of deceased officers.

Etuk assured the Command that the beneficiaries would make judicious use of the funds received.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSP Timfon John, told that the intervention goes beyond the presentation of cheques, describing it as a demonstration of the Police Force’s continued responsibility towards families of officers who dedicated their lives to national service.

“The command considers the welfare of the families of our fallen colleagues important because their sacrifice should not end with their death.

“This intervention is a practical expression of the Force’s commitment to standing by their families and ensuring that their contributions are not forgotten,” John said.

The command also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the welfare of serving and retired personnel, as well as supporting families of deceased officers.

It prayed for continued comfort and strength for the bereaved families and eternal rest for the souls of the departed officers.
