Governor Otti gave the assurance when the AIG, who recently assumed office as head of Zone 9, Umuahia, paid him a courtesy visit in his office, Nvosi Isialangwa South LGA to formally announce his assumption of duty.
The governor, who said his administration was closely monitoring security developments in the state, commended the AIG for the measures already taken since assuming office.
He particularly commended the AIG for taking disciplinary action against some police personnel accused of unprofessional conduct, describing it as the “right signal” to officers and the public.
“We are very conscious and very serious about security in the state, so we monitor what you do without you knowing that we monitor them.
“So we already have the reports of some of the things you have already started to do, so I must commend you and thank you.
“I must also commend you for the arrest of some of your men involved in non-professional conducts. That is the right signal that you have sent, and any time the right signal is sent, people pick it up.
“If you also send the wrong signal, people also pick it up. So it’s the right signal, and you have communicated to the men, officers and non-officers, that there is zero tolerance for misconduct with the force”, Governor Otti said.
The governor urged the AIG to sustain the approach and establish a dedicated contact centre where members of the public could report security concerns and provide information that could assist police investigations.
Responding to the AIG’s requests, including additional operational vehicles and a solution to recurring power outages, among others, Governor Otti promised to address the Command’s needs to enhance its operational capacity.
He also directed his Special Adviser on Security, retired Navy Commander MacDonald Ubah, to engage the Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities, Mr Ikechukwu Monday, on solutions to the Command’s power challenges.
Governor Otti also promised to provide a new 150kVA generator and solar panels for the police, assuring the AIG that other issues raised during the meeting would also be considered.
He stressed that the welfare and working conditions of security personnel in the state remains important to effective policing and assured that his administration would continue to support the Nigeria Police Force.
Earlier in his address, the AIG Zone 9, Abia State Command, AIG Nwonyi Polycarp outlined his priorities noting that the command’s focus would include intelligence gathering and analysis, crime prevention, visibility policing and stronger partnerships with communities and relevant agencies.

AIG Nwonyi said the zone was working to improve the collective analysis and dissemination of intelligence, strengthen rapid-response operations, patrols and and deploy available technology to policing.
The AIG also emphasised the need for collaboration among the police, state governments, other security agencies, traditional rulers, communities and residents in tackling insecurity.
He said the police remained committed to professionalism, accountability, discipline and adherence to the rule of law, with the objectives of preventing crime, disrupting criminal groups, protecting lives and property, responding quickly to threats and strengthening public confidence.
The AIG drew the Governor’s attention to some of their challenges which he noted has adversely affected the operational capacity of the command.
