A Nigerian woman has sparked debate after questioning why she is expected to return to her village for her wedding despite receiving little or no support from people in the community.

In a statement shared online, the woman expressed frustration that nobody from her village had contributed to taking care of her or her family, including her education.

She questioned why she should still be expected to go back to the same people and organise a wedding for them when she gets married.

“I can’t believe that no single person have contributed anything to taking care of me or my family from my village. No single person has contributed to my education but when I’m getting married I have to go down to those people and go and do wedding for them.” — Lady says.

Her complaint has generated mixed reactions online, with some people arguing that traditional marriage ceremonies remain important regardless of financial contributions, while others said people should be allowed to choose how and where they want to celebrate their marriages.
