July 29, () — Emerging reports has confirmed that Iran has launched multiple ballistic missiles at US forces in the Middle East early Wednesday, with all projectiles intercepted before reaching their targets, according to the US military, marking a renewed escalation after a brief pause in hostilities.

Iranian and local media reported that the missiles were fired towards US military installations in Jordan, where air defence systems were activated to intercept the incoming threats. US-based publication Axios, citing a US official, also reported that the missiles were successfully intercepted.

In a statement, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had carried out what it described as an “attempted surprise attack” on American forces in the region, although it did not specify the location of the targeted base.

“Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces launched multiple ballistic missiles from Iran in an attempted surprise attack on U.S. forces based in the Middle East,” CENTCOM said.

The military added that “all Iranian missiles were successfully intercepted” and that US forces remained “vigilant and at a high state of readiness”.

The latest exchange ends a short pause in fighting that followed nearly two weeks of nightly US strikes on Iranian targets and repeated Iranian missile and drone attacks against Washington’s allies across the Gulf.

The recent escalation was triggered after several vessels were struck in the Strait of Hormuz, intensifying concerns over regional security and the potential disruption of global energy supplies.

The renewed hostilities also come after oil prices fell during the weekend lull, amid hopes of a diplomatic breakthrough. US President Donald Trump had said there was a “good chance” negotiations could help bring an end to the conflict.

Relations between Washington and Tehran have deteriorated sharply in recent weeks, with the US conducting military strikes against Iran and Tehran responding by targeting what it says are US military facilities and equipment across the region.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage following Wednesday’s missile attack.
