INEC Sets October 9 for Nationwide PVC Collection Ahead of 2027 Elections
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced that the collection of Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, by newly registered voters will commence nationwide on October 9, 2026, as preparations intensify for the 2027 General Election.
The announcement was made on Monday, September 28, 2026, by the INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, during the Commission’s North-West Zonal Interactive Meeting with Staff and Readiness Assessment for the 2027 General Election in Kaduna.
Amupitan disclosed that the recently concluded voter registration exercise recorded a significant turnout, producing more than 10.7 million new registrations across the country.
With the commencement of PVC collection now scheduled, the INEC Chairman stressed the need for the Commission to address bottlenecks associated with the distribution of voter cards at the Local Government Area level.
He noted that removing such obstacles would be critical to ensuring that eligible citizens who successfully registered are able to collect their PVCs and exercise their constitutional right to vote in the forthcoming elections.
Beyond voter registration and PVC collection, the Commission is also strengthening its technological infrastructure as part of its preparations for the 2027 polls.
According to Amupitan, INEC is refining its systems for voter verification and result transmission, alongside improvements to its Result Management Systems, including the recently introduced eEC8A.
The Commission is equally adopting what it describes as a Zero-Failure approach to election logistics, with emphasis on early deployment of sensitive and non-sensitive materials, efficient movement of personnel and electoral materials, enhanced security coordination, and comprehensive training of ad-hoc election personnel.
The latest measures underscore INEC’s broader preparations to ensure that the electoral process is adequately supported by technology, logistics and personnel ahead of the 2027 General Election.
With PVC collection set to begin nationwide on October 9, attention is now shifting to the effective distribution of the newly produced voter cards and the readiness of electoral officials and facilities across the country.
