“Igbo Billionaires Remember Home Only During Burials” – Odumeje Urges More Investment In South-East

• Prophet Chukwuemeka Odumeje has challenged wealthy Igbo businessmen to invest more in Igboland instead of focusing their investments outside the South-East.

Prophet Chukwuemeka Odumeje has called on wealthy Igbo businessmen to invest more in Igboland, saying many remember their homeland when it is time to bury loved ones but look to cities such as Lagos and Abuja for meaningful investments.

Speaking about development in the South-East, Odumeje said, “Igbo billionaires are mostly good at remembering their land when it’s time for b¥rial. When it’s time for meaningful development, they remember Lagos or Abuja.”

The prophet urged Igbo billionaires and other investors to acquire land and build estates across the region, particularly along major expressways.

According to him, the same effort used to transport the remains of relatives who die in cities such as Lagos back to their hometowns should also be channelled into developing the region.

He also praised investors who have started bringing developments from other parts of Nigeria back to Igboland, urging others to follow suit.

“Come home to Igboland, acquire land in every corner, and build estates. Those are the kinds of calls I want to hear,” he said.

Odumeje further called for modern estates, streetlights and other infrastructure across major routes in the South-East.

“When you come here, it should look like London. Why should we settle for less when proper development can transform the region?” he asked.

He added, “Igbo people must develop their own homeland. We need development in Igboland. I am not satisfied until we achieve proper development in Igboland.”

His comments have since sparked mixed reactions online, with some social media users agreeing that more private investment is needed in the South-East, while others argued that investors naturally focus on areas where their target markets and business opportunities are located.
