*”FROM LEGISLATIVE EXPERIENCE TO A NEW CHAPTER FOR ABIA CENTRAL: REP. EMEKA ATUMA*

As campaign for 2027 Abia Central Senatorial zone contest intensifies, one familiar name that is attracting renewed attention is Rep. Emeka Atuma, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Abia Central Senatorial Zone.

The zone which comprise, Ikwuano, Isiala Ngwa North, Isiala Ngwa South, Osisioma Ngwa, Umuahia North and Umuahia South, has a long history of political participation and community development.

Be that as it may, Atuma’s candidacy enters that landscape with an unusual feature namely previous experience inside the National Assembly.

He represented Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives from 2003 to 2007, where he served as chairman House Committee on Environment and Ecological Matters. During that period, he championed legislation that resulted in the establishment of the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) and the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA).

Unarguably, his legislative records provide an important context for his current Senate bid. They show a politician whose previous National Assembly experience was closely connected to institutional legislation and environmental governance.

Inaddition, Atuma’s political story extends beyond his time in the Green Chamber. Records associated with his constituency tenure include 72 water projects, erosion-control interventions, rural electrification, roads with street lights, classroom blocks, scholarships and youth-employment initiatives.

Surely, his impressive score card while in the Green Chamber forms part of the argument behind his return to the National Assembly this time the Red Chamber. Atuma is aspiring to the Senate not simply as another political destination, but as a platform from which legislative experience can be applied to a broader senatorial agenda.

His proposed priorities include human-capital development, employment, quality education, accessible healthcare, infrastructure, youth development and support for entrepreneurs and small businesses.

For Atuma, the central proposition is straightforward: legislative representation should connect the aspirations of communities to the opportunities available through federal legislation, budgeting, oversight and policy engagement.

That proposition places his candidacy within a larger conversation about what Abia Central Senatorial Zone expects from its next senator.

Thus, for the APC candidate, his previous legislative experience, constituency record and proposed agenda provide the foundation for a new chapter.

All said, in 2027, Rep. Emeka Atuma is asking voters across Abia Central Senatorial Zone to entrust him with that chapter and give him the opportunity to return to the National Assembly, this time as their senator.
