Nigeria’s GDP Growth Hits 4.43 Percent In Q2 2026 As Agriculture, Services Accelerate

August 31, () — Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 4.43 percent year-on-year in real terms in the second quarter of 2026, according to the latest data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

The Q2 growth rate represents a 0.20 percentage-point increase from the 4.23 percent recorded in the corresponding quarter of 2025.

The latest performance indicates a modest acceleration in economic activity, although growth remained uneven across the major sectors of the economy.

Services recorded the strongest growth during the quarter, expanding by 4.60 percent compared with 3.94 percent in Q2 2025.

“The services sector recorded a growth of 4.60 percent from 3.94 percent in the same quarter of 2025”, the NBS said.

Agriculture also recorded stronger growth, expanding by 4.39 percent in Q2 2026, compared with 2.82 percent in the corresponding quarter of 2025.

“Agriculture grew by 4.39 percent, an improvement from the 2.82 percent recorded in the corresponding quarter of 2025”, the statistics agency stated.

However, the industrial sector recorded a sharp slowdown during the period.

According to the NBS, industry grew by 3.96 percent in Q2 2026, significantly lower than the 7.46 percent recorded in Q2 2025.

“The growth of the industry sector stood at 3.96 percent from 7.46 percent recorded in the second quarter of 2025”, the agency said.

The Q2 GDP figures provide an early indication of how the Nigerian economy performed in the first half of 2026, with the stronger performances in services and agriculture helping to offset the slowdown in industrial activity.
