A former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Rt. Hon. Prince Christopher Enweremadu, has commended Governor Alex Otti for his performance in the governance and development of Abia State.
Enweremadu spoke with journalists on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, shortly after paying a private visit to Governor Alex Otti at his residence in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of the state.
The former Speaker explained that although the visit was primarily private, their discussions also touched on issues concerning the progress and development of Abia State.
“This, in essence, is a private visit, and we were happy to be received very warmly by the Governor. We had a very, very good time discussing not just the private purpose for which I was here, but also the good and betterment of the state,” Prince Enweremadu said.
The Former Speaker, who is an indigene of Isiala Ngwa, stressed the need for citizens to support efforts aimed at developing the state.
“I have come to show support to the Governor and to also share one or two private discussions with my brothers and the Governor.
“The purposes or substance of the discussion is private, and I know that you would also respect that,” he added.
Assessing Governor Otti’s performance, the former Speaker said he had consistently maintained that the Governor was doing well, while praying for divine wisdom and good health for him to fulfil his mandate.
“The Governor is doing well. I have said it in so many forums.
“So, we will continue to pray that God will grant him the wisdom and good health to continue to deliver on the promises that he has made to the Abia people.” he stated.
He also emphasised that governance was a continuous process, noting that every administration builds on what previous governments had achieved.
“Obviously, you can see that government is a continuum, it is a continuity. From where the former governments that had led the state had left, the Governor has continued.
“So, if we disregard the achievements of the past, without a past, you cannot have a present. Without a present, you can’t have a future.
“I think the Governor is doing his part, given the time that is given to him by the mandate given to him by the Abia people, to further from where the previous administrators had stopped,” he stated.
Pressed further by journalists about the Governor’s performance, Enweremadu reiterated his position while making it clear that he was not at the Governor’s House to discuss politics.
“I think he’s doing well on that path. Like I also told you, I’m not here to discuss politics.
“I think I’m very, very clear on all the things that I have said. I have told you that this was a private visit.
“And as a former Speaker of the state, in the course of my visits on the Governor, I have also shared what I think are my observations of what is happening in Abia.
“And it was well received. He has also given me some updates on what he’s doing, and I’m happy with what is happening. And I think it should summarise whatever questions you may want to ask,” Rt. Hon. Enweremadu concluded.
The visit highlights the former Speaker’s public endorsement of the direction of the present administration, despite his affiliation with the opposition APC.
