APC’s bye-election victories significant ahead of 2027 – Keyamo

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has described the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s victories in four of the five bye-elections held across three geopolitical regions as significant ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Keyamo made the statement in a social media post on Sunday while reacting to the results of the legislative bye-elections conducted on Saturday.

The APC won seats in Kano State in the North-West, Bauchi and Gombe states in the North-East, and Delta State in the South-South.

The party, however, lost the Sakwa State Constituency seat in Bauchi State to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

In Kano, APC candidate Hussaini Yusuf Datti won the Dawakin Kudu State Constituency bye-election with 22,890 votes.

In Bauchi, APC candidate Yakubu Ali won the Disina State Constituency election with 5,846 votes, while the APM scored 5,225 votes.

The APC also won the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in Gombe State, where its candidate, Kallamu Usman MaiJama’a, polled 41,121 votes.

In Delta, APC candidate Okolosi Ator won the Udu State Constituency seat with 8,724 votes. The APM, however, won the Sakwa State Constituency seat in Bauchi with 8,515 votes.

Keyamo said the spread of the APC’s victories across the three regions was very significant going into the 2027 general elections.

He also referred to the constitutional requirement for a presidential candidate to secure at least 25 per cent of the votes in two-thirds of the states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.

The minister said the requirement takes into account Nigeria’s diverse nature.

“Let me keep our gunpowder dry for now. A fuller analysis of this significant factor in Presidential elections will follow on January 19th or 20th, 2027,” Keyamo said.
