October 8, () – The global leadership and membership of Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio (MMI) have commended Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State for appointing Professor Philip Afaha as the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education, Afaha Nsit.

The group said the appointment was significant to the establishment and take-off of the institution as a full-fledged university following its transition from a College of Education.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by its International Public Relations Officer, Akparawa (Pst) Idongesit Ikono and made available to , the organisation said Afaha’s appointment provided the leadership needed to guide the institution through its formative stage.

The group described Afaha as an accomplished academic with experience in scholarship and public service, saying his profile was suited to the demands of providing leadership for the new university.

“MMI considers his appointment consistent with the demands of providing experienced leadership for the new institution”, the statement read.

The organisation expressed confidence that the pioneer Vice Chancellor would deploy his academic knowledge and administrative experience to establish a strong foundation for the university.

According to MMI, the institution should emerge as a centre of academic excellence while also promoting character formation and moral development among students.

The group congratulated Afaha on his appointment and wished him wisdom and strength in discharging what it described as a historic responsibility.

“The appointment of Professor Philip Afaha as the pioneer Vice Chancellor provides the leadership framework required for the University of Education to begin this new chapter on a sound footing. MMI believes that his experience in scholarship and public service will be valuable in building an institution that contributes meaningfully to education, character development and the future of our young people.”

Ikono said MMI remained committed to supporting initiatives capable of advancing education, human capital development and the overall progress of Akwa Ibom State.
