Abia’s Smart Schools Revolution Goes National, Attracts Federal Attention
The Abia State Government’s ambitious Smart Schools Project has continued to attract national attention, with a ministerial committee from the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), visiting the state to assess the success and impact of the initiative.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed that the visit was part of efforts to evaluate the progress recorded by Abia in deploying modern, technology-driven learning facilities across the state.
According to him, the remarkable progress of the Smart Schools Project has positioned Abia as an emerging reference point at the federal level, drawing attention to the state’s innovative approach to transforming basic education.
The Commissioner made the disclosure on Monday, August 24, 2026, while briefing journalists at Government House, Umuahia, on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
The development further underscores the growing recognition of the Otti administration’s education reforms, particularly its drive to provide pupils with access to digitally enabled classrooms and modern learning tools designed to prepare them for the demands of a rapidly changing world.
