Aba North Mayor, Timothy Iheke Receives New NSCDC Divisional Officer, Pledges Stronger Partnership on Security
The Executive Chairman of Aba North Local Government Area, Hon. Timothy Kalu Iheke, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening security through strategic collaboration with security agencies, as he received the newly posted Divisional Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Superintendent of Corps (SC) Solomon Ezechi Chigbu, on a courtesy visit to his office on Wednesday, July 8, 2026.
The visit, which marked the formal introduction of the new NSCDC Divisional Officer to the leadership of the council, also provided an opportunity for both parties to discuss measures aimed at enhancing security, protecting critical infrastructure and promoting peace across Aba North Local Government Area.
Welcoming the new Divisional Officer, Hon. Iheke congratulated SC Chigbu on his deployment to Aba North and expressed confidence in his capacity to build on the achievements of his predecessor. He noted that the former Divisional Officer distinguished himself through diligence, professionalism and proactive service delivery, expressing optimism that the new officer would further raise the standard of security operations in the area.
The Mayor assured the NSCDC of the unwavering support and cooperation of the Aba North Local Government, stressing that effective security remains indispensable to sustainable development, economic growth and the overall wellbeing of residents.
Earlier, the new NSCDC Divisional Officer, Superintendent of Corps Solomon Ezechi Chigbu, commended Hon. Timothy Kalu Iheke for his visionary and transformational leadership, particularly the ongoing reconstruction and revitalisation of the Aba North Council Secretariat. He described the Chairman’s achievements as evidence of purposeful governance that aligns with the development-driven agenda of Governor Alex Chioma Otti.
SC Chigbu reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to safeguarding lives and property, protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, maintaining peace and supporting community development. He noted that the expanding responsibilities of the NSCDC reflect the agency’s professionalism, growing national relevance and strategic role in strengthening internal security.
To further enhance the Corps’ operational effectiveness within the council area, the NSCDC Divisional Officer appealed for deeper collaboration with the Aba North Local Government.
He requested logistical support, operational vehicles, improved office accommodation, ICT facilities and financial assistance to boost security operations, protect public infrastructure, sustain the Safe School Initiative and improve rapid response to emerging security challenges.
The meeting ended with a shared commitment by both the Aba North Local Government and the NSCDC to deepen their partnership in ensuring a safer and more secure environment for residents and businesses across the local
government area.
