The Kaduna State Police Command said it has arrested and arraigned 17 additional suspects in connection with the mob killing of a woman in Maraban Jos, disclosing that investigations into the incident are ongoing.

In a press release issued by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, said the suspects were arraigned before a court on June 25, 2026.

The command also disclosed that, following the conclusion of preliminary investigations, 33 other suspects have been charged with criminal conspiracy and unlawful assembly in connection with the incident.

According to the statement, 30 persons previously arrested in connection with the case have also been released unconditionally after investigators found they did not participate in the crime.

The police said efforts have been intensified to identify and apprehend all individuals who either participated in or aided the commission of the crime, assuring that everyone found culpable would be brought to justice.

“The Command reiterates that investigations remain ongoing. We are intensifying efforts to identify and apprehend all individuals who participated in, or aided, the commission of this heinous crime. Every person found culpable will be brought to justice,” the statement said.

 

The Commissioner of Police,  Muhammad Rabiu, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to securing justice for the victim and maintaining law and order across Kaduna State.

He urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and to continue providing credible information to assist the police with the ongoing investigation.

The killing of Malama Ummulkhairi, an Islamic teacher, over allegations of stealing children, which occurred in Maraban Jos, had sparked widespread condemnation from security agencies, civil society organisations, and community leaders, who described it as a disturbing case of mob justice.
