Bonnie Tyler Out Of Induced Coma, Cancels Tour Dates As She Remains In ICU

June 16, () — Welsh singer, Bonnie Tyler, has woken up from an induced coma after emergency surgery in Portugal. She is still in intensive care and remains “very unwell”.

The 75-year-old singer was taken to hospital in Faro in May after undergoing emergency surgery for a perforated intestine. Doctors later placed her in an induced coma to help her recover.

Her team confirmed that she is now awake and her condition is slowly improving.

“Bonnie is no longer in a coma but remains very unwell and in intensive care in hospital in Portugal,” the statement said. “Although her condition is improving, it is a slow process.”

Doctors say they are hopeful she will recover, but it will take time.

“Her doctors remain confident that she will make a good recovery, but it is going to take time.”

Because of her condition, her summer tour dates through August have been cancelled or postponed. Some autumn shows may still go ahead depending on her recovery.

“We apologise to all of Bonnie’s fans and to our promoter partners for the disappointment that this will cause but trust that you will understand and bear with us in these difficult circumstances. We hope to see you next year instead.”

Her team thanked fans for their support and said she is aware of the messages and grateful for them.

Bonnie Tyler, born Gaynor Hopkins in Wales, rose to international fame in the 1980s with hits, including “Total Eclipse of the Heart” and “Holding Out for a Hero”.
