Former Niger Commissioner of Police, Diseye Nsirim, Dies After Brief Illness
Former Commissioner of Police in Niger State, Diseye Desire Nsirim, has died at the age of retirement after a brief illness.
Nsirim passed away on Monday, September 21, 2026, at a hospital, according to the Niger State Police Command, which announced her death on Tuesday.
The retired police officer, a native of Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, made history as the 27th Commissioner of Police in Niger State, serving from 2012 to 2014.
She was also the first and, according to the Niger State Police Command, the only woman to have served as Commissioner of Police in the state.
During her tenure, Nsirim was credited with significant contributions to crime prevention, public safety and the maintenance of law and order across Niger State.
Among the notable security operations recorded during her administration was the dismantling of the Darul-Salam group in Mokwa, as well as the successful operation that led to the busting of another terrorist group in Minna.
The Niger State Police Command said her service record reflected a commitment to policing and the protection of lives and property during her time in office.
In a condolence message issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer in Niger State, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said the current Commissioner of Police, Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, expressed sympathy to Nsirim’s family, relatives, colleagues and associates over the loss.
Elleman acknowledged the late retired commissioner’s contributions to policing in Niger State and the broader national security architecture, describing her service as significant.
He also prayed for strength and fortitude for the bereaved family as they come to terms with the loss of the former police commissioner.
Nsirim’s death marks the passing of a pioneering female police officer whose career included a historic leadership role at the helm of security affairs in Niger State.
