PBAT Movement Unveils Grassroots Drive for Tinubu in Rivers

The PBAT Door-to-Door Movement in Rivers State has announced plans to intensify grassroots mobilisation across the state, with its new leadership expected to take the policies and projects of the Federal Government directly to residents ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The State Coordinator of the movement, Dr. Kingsley Ogu, disclosed this in Port Harcourt recently, while briefing journalists after an expanded executive meeting that also witnessed a restructuring of the organisation’s leadership.

Ogu said the movement would adopt a door-to-door approach to engage communities and explain what it considers the major interventions of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration in Rivers State.

He identified developments in Ogoniland, the oil and gas sector, education and transportation as some of the issues that would feature prominently in the movement’s grassroots campaign.

According to him, the planned resumption of oil exploration in Ogoniland could create employment and stimulate business activities, while investments in the hydrocarbon sector could provide additional economic opportunities for residents.

Ogu also cited the Federal University of Environment and Technology, established in Ogoni by an Act signed by President Tinubu in February 2025, as another development the movement intends to highlight. The university commenced its first academic session in 2025/26, according to its official profile.

He further mentioned activities around OML 58, the UBETA gas project and the second phase of the ASA gas project, saying the movement would use such developments to engage residents on the potential economic implications of increased investment in the state.

On the removal of the petrol subsidy, Ogu acknowledged its effects but pointed to Federal Government initiatives promoting gas-powered transportation and other alternatives as part of the administration’s response.

He also advocated state police, arguing that greater involvement of state-level security structures could strengthen responses to security challenges and improve coordination in communities.

The meeting also produced a new leadership structure for the movement, with Ogu emerging as State Coordinator and Bro. Tammy Soberekon as Deputy Coordinator. Changes were also made at the senatorial district, federal constituency and local government levels, as well as among some women leaders.

The movement said the restructuring was intended to promote unity, inclusiveness and productivity while bringing new ideas and renewed energy to its operations.

Ogu also commended the founder of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, for providing the platform for the organisation’s activities.

He particularly referenced Tantita Security Services and its involvement in oil infrastructure protection, linking developments in the sector to the broader economic interests of the Niger Delta.

Ogu said the movement would commence a more extensive community-level engagement across Rivers State, with members expected to interact directly with residents and present the projects and policies they believe have benefited the state.

He maintained that the movement would sustain its mobilisation activities across the state in support of President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
