Nigerian Equities Market Extends Gains As Gainers Outnumber Decliners

  • NGX market capitalisation rose by ₦315 billion to ₦158.71 trillion as the All-Share Index gained 0.20 percent.

  • Market breadth improved, with 34 stocks recording gains against 26 decliners.

  • SOVRENINS, CHAMPION and LIVESTOCK led the gainers, while IMG, JOHNHOLT and LIVINGTRUST recorded the biggest declines.

September 16, () – The Nigerian equities market extended its positive run on Wednesday, with the benchmark All-Share Index (ASI) and market capitalisation closing higher amid improved market breadth.

The market capitalisation opened at ₦158.399 trillion and closed at ₦158.714 trillion, representing a gain of ₦315 billion. Similarly, the ASI rose by 487.28 points, or 0.20 percent, from 244,304.51 at the opening to 244,791.79 at the close.

Trading sentiment was positive, with 34 equities recording price gains against 26 decliners, indicating stronger buying interest across the market.

  • SOVRENINS gained 9.69 percent (₦1.96 to ₦2.15).
  • CHAMPION advanced 9.50 percent (₦10.00 to ₦10.95).
  • LIVESTOCK rose 9.42 percent (₦6.90 to ₦7.55).
  • LEARNAFRCA climbed 9.09 percent (₦7.70 to ₦8.40).
  • MBENEFIT appreciated 8.93 percent (₦2.80 to ₦3.05).

  • JOHNHOLT declined by 9.88 percent (₦8.10 to ₦7.30).

  • ROYALEX slipped 9.00 percent (₦1.00 to ₦0.91).

FirstHoldCo Plc, Dangote Cement, Seplat Energy, Custodian Investment Plc, Julius Berger, Cadbury Nigeria, Nestle Nigeria, among others, closed flat for the day.

The market’s positive close and improved breadth suggest stronger buying interest, with investors maintaining selective positions across the equities space. Outlook for the next session remains cautiously positive, although the continued sharp declines in some stocks could keep trading sentiment mixed and encourage selective rather than broad-based buying.
