The Nigerian entertainment industry has reportedly been thrown into mourning following the death of veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, who reportedly passed away at the age of 66 after battling stage-four cancer.
Reports of his death emerged on Sunday, August 23, 2026, only days after his family publicly revealed the severity of his health condition and appealed for urgent medical intervention.
Ogogo’s reported passing has sent shockwaves across the Yoruba movie industry and among millions of fans who grew up watching one of the most recognisable and enduring faces in indigenous Nigerian cinema.
The heartbreaking development came after an emotional period during which the actor’s daughters, Lima and Kira Taiwo, revealed that their father was battling advanced cancer. The family had appealed to Nigerians and the wider medical community for assistance as they searched for options to continue his treatment.
According to earlier reports, the hospital where the veteran actor was receiving treatment could no longer administer chemotherapy, forcing the family to seek alternative medical facilities and specialists capable of handling his condition.
