Tekno Reveals Health Battle That Forced Him Away From Music
July 10 () — Nigerian singer, Augustine Miles Kelechi, popularly known as Tekno, has revealed that a serious vocal cord problem forced him to step away from music for a long period.
Speaking in a recent interview with Cool FM Lagos, Tekno said the condition was caused by acid reflux and affected his ability to sing.
The singer said he kept the health issue private at the time, which made some people around him believe he had lost interest in music.
He explained that his team and some close people thought he was being lazy because he reduced his performances and music activities.
“Even the people closest to me were saying that ‘he is just lazy. He doesn’t want to perform..’. I was in a very dark place. Even after I recovered, I hated music. I didn’t want to hear music for a long time. I was only forcing myself to do music because I had a deal with Universal,” he said.

The singer also revealed that the condition affected him financially, as he had to refund more than $1 million to show promoters because he was unable to perform due to his health.
Tekno said the experience affected him emotionally and made him lose his connection with music even after he recovered.
He added that reading inspirational books helped him heal and gradually reconnect with his passion for music.
The health challenge came during the peak of Tekno’s career, when he was known for hit songs and major performances. The long break slowed his career momentum, but he has since returned to making music.
