Nigerian-American Actresses Ayo Edebiri, Joy Sunday Earn Emmy Nominations as ‘The Pitt’ Leads With 25 Nods

July 9 () — The nominations for the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards were announced Wednesday, July 8, by actors Liza Colón-Zayas and Jeff Hiller at the Television Academy in Los Angeles.

Medical drama “The Pitt” leads this year’s nominations with 25 nods, while comedy series “Hacks” follows with 24 nominations, setting a new record for the most nominations for a comedy series in one year.

Apple TV’s “Widow’s Bay” received 19 nominations, while “Pluribus” earned 18. Netflix’s “Beef” led the limited series categories with 16 nominations.

Nigerian-American actress Ayo Edebiri received a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as Sydney Adamu in “The Bear.”

Fellow Nigerian-American actress Joy Sunday earned her first Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for her role as Detective Jodie Plumb in HBO’s “DTF St. Louis.”

Other notable nominees include Taylor Swift for “The Eras Tour: The Final Show” concert special and Bad Bunny for his Super Bowl halftime performance.

The awards ceremony will take place on September 14, with Mariska Hargitay hosting the event.
