Arsenal Fire Warning Shot, Sweep Aside Manchester City to Win Community Shield.

Arsenal began the new campaign in emphatic fashion, defeating Manchester City 3–0 to lift the 2026 Community Shield at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on Sunday.
The Premier League champions produced a commanding performance to overwhelm the FA Cup holders and claim their 18th Community Shield title, moving closer to Manchester United’s record 21 triumphs.
Arsenal needed just 23 seconds to break the deadlock. Myles Lewis-Skelly released Riccardo Calafiori inside the City penalty area, and the Italian defender calmly slotted the ball beyond Manchester City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The early goal unsettled City, who struggled to impose themselves on the contest during the opening stages. Arsenal, by contrast, continued to dictate the tempo and threaten in attack.

The Gunners doubled their advantage in the 28th minute when summer signing Christos Tzolis played a key role in the move. The Greek winger nodded Martin Ødegaard’s cross back across the face of goal, allowing Kai Havertz to send a downward header beyond Donnarumma.

Arsenal went into half-time with a deserved 2–0 lead and returned after the interval with the same intensity.
Just three minutes into the second half, Tzolis again provided the decisive pass. He found Ødegaard inside the City penalty area, where the Arsenal captain produced a clever dummy to wrong-foot Donnarumma before calmly placing the ball into the opposite corner.

The third goal effectively ended City’s hopes of a comeback and completed a miserable afternoon for Enzo Maresca in his first competitive match in charge of Manchester City.
Substitute Bukayo Saka went close late in the match but fired over from a promising position as Arsenal finished the contest without conceding.
Tzolis was the standout performer for Arsenal, contributing two assists on his competitive debut for the club. The £34 million summer signing arrived from Club Brugge after an outstanding campaign in which he was directly involved in 40 league goals, scoring 17 and providing 23 assists.
The 24-year-old Greek forward previously played for Norwich City between 2021 and 2024 and returned to English football with Arsenal this summer.

New signing Bruno Guimarães also started for the Gunners but produced a quieter display in the heart of midfield as Arsenal’s attacking players dominated the headlines.
The victory gives Arteta’s side their second major trophy in four months and provides an early statement of intent ahead of the new Premier League season.

For City, however, the defeat raises questions after a disappointing opening to the Maresca era. The FA Cup holders were largely outplayed by an Arsenal side that combined pace, precision and defensive discipline throughout the afternoon.
