Anyaso Signs Bende Prosperity Contract, Pledges Two Terms
The Labour Party candidate for Bende Federal Constituency in the 2027 House of Representatives election, Dr Chima Desmond Anyaso, has signed a “Bende Prosperity Contract” outlining his commitments to the people of the constituency if elected.
Anyaso, who unveiled the document at a gathering of traditional rulers, President Generals, community leaders, political stakeholders, religious leaders and youth representatives from across Bende, said the contract was designed to make his proposed representation measurable and accountable.
Tagged “Walk With Me,” the document covers agriculture, education, healthcare, infrastructure, youth development, enterprise, women empowerment, sports, security and environmental sustainability.

According to Anyaso, the document differs from conventional political manifestos because it is intended to serve as a covenant between him and the electorate.
“Today, I present to you ‘The Bende Prosperity Contract.’ This is not a manifesto full of big English and bigger lies. It is a contract. A covenant between me and you,” he said.
He urged the people of Bende to demand transparency and measurable results from their elected representatives, insisting that public projects should not be portrayed as personal favours by politicians.

“When a project is funded with public money, and a man stands up to claim he single-handedly ‘gave’ it to you as a favour, that is not leadership. That is deceit,” Anyaso said.
He promised that, if elected, his focus in Abuja would include attracting federal interventions in roads, healthcare, education and youth skills development, while ensuring that the people understood that such projects belonged to them.
Pledges two terms
A major feature of the contract was Anyaso’s pledge to serve a maximum of two terms if elected, citing the political understanding between the Umunna and Ikwuisii blocs.
He said he would not seek a third term and would support an Ikwuisii candidate to succeed him at the appropriate time.
“I will respect that understanding. I will serve my term with the knowledge that power is not personal property. I will not seek a third term,” he said.
According to him, political leadership should be about creating opportunities for younger generations rather than allowing individuals to remain in office indefinitely.
“Leadership must create successors, not permanent occupants,” he added.
Anyaso also urged his supporters not to be intimidated ahead of the election, declaring confidence that the Labour Party would emerge victorious.
“Do not allow anybody to tell you that this election has already been decided. We are winning this one! The power belongs to you,” he said.
He, however, cautioned young people against electoral violence, stressing that no political contest was worth sacrificing their lives or future.
“No election is worth your life. No politician’s ambition is worth destroying your future,” he said.
Support from Labour leaders
The Director General of the Chima Anyaso Campaign Organisation, Pastor Okechukwu Dike, said the event was organised to publicly present the contract before traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders in Bende.
He said the document would enable the people to hold Anyaso accountable for his commitments if elected.
The Mayor of Bende Local Government Area, Hon. Dcn. Uwabunkonye Bassey, described the contract as evidence of Anyaso’s preparedness for public office and pledged to take his message back to the people.
“I am going home to tell my people that a true son has come to represent Bende people,” Bassey said, while declaring opposition to electoral malpractice.
Similarly, the Abia State Chairman of the Labour Party, Hon. Peter Azubuike, expressed confidence in Anyaso’s chances, saying the contents of the contract demonstrated his commitment to the people.
“With what I have seen today, Dr Chima Anyaso is so selfless that the people have every reason to rejoice,” he said.
A Labour Party chieftain and founder of ECK Foundation, Chief Emeka Kalu, also urged voters to protect their mandate, saying, “This vote must be counted.”
Traditional rulers, PGs back initiative
Speaking on behalf of the President Generals in Umunna, the President General of Item, Prince Okenwa Ichie, described the public signing of the contract as unprecedented in Bende.
He expressed confidence in Anyaso’s ability to deliver on the commitments contained in the document and pledged the support of the Umunna bloc.
The District Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Umuahia North Jerusalem, Rev. James Ndukwe, who delivered a sermon titled “Blessed Is the Nation Whose God Is the Lord,” drawn from Psalm 33:12–16, emphasised humility and responsible leadership.
He cited Anyaso’s conduct at the event as an example of humility and urged leaders to remain conscious of the need for God’s guidance.
The Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, was represented at the event by Prof. Ijeoma Iheukwumere, who conveyed the Governor’s goodwill and assured Anyaso of Labour Party support.
At the end of the ceremony, Anyaso urged the people of Bende to keep the Prosperity Contract and use it as a reference point for assessing his performance if elected.
“Read it, question it, keep it. And if you give me your mandate, hold me to it. I am ready,” he said.
