Six people, including a Catholic catechist and a bride-to-be identified as Peace Lami Williams, have reportedly been killed after spending about 120 days in captivity, despite months of ransom negotiations and payments by their communities.
The victims were among dozens of residents abducted during a midnight attack on Kutaho and Kugir communities in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State on February 9, 2026.
According to community sources, residents made desperate efforts to secure the captives’ freedom by contributing money, selling personal belongings and farm produce to meet the kidnappers’ demands. The abductors reportedly increased their demands even after receiving ransom payments.
Those reported killed include Friday Agama, Kunama Dogo, Monday Tanko, Peace Lami Williams, a man identified as Pawpaw’s brother, and the Catholic catechist, who sources allege was subjected to severe torture while in captivity.
The incident has triggered renewed outrage and concern over the worsening security situation, with many calling for stronger action to address the growing threat of kidnappings.
