Former Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins has thrown his weight behind Seyi Tinubu, saying the President’s son could help transform Nigerian football if given the opportunity to lead the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Martins made the comment while speaking about the need for younger leadership in Nigerian football and people who understand both the game and the challenges within the system.

According to the former Inter Milan and Newcastle United striker, Seyi Tinubu has the qualities needed to make a difference.

“He’s young and he understands what Nigerian people want. I think he can change that. He can change that. He can change that,” Martins said.

When asked whether Seyi Tinubu was already doing enough to influence change, Martins acknowledged that he is not the President of the country but maintained that he has been making efforts.

“I mean, he’s not the President, but still he’s making an effort,” he added.

Martins’ endorsement has sparked mixed reactions online, with some Nigerians questioning the suggestion while others argued that there is nothing stopping Seyi Tinubu from seeking a leadership position in football.

Some users also suggested that former footballers with direct experience of the game should be considered for leadership positions within the country’s football administration.
