NYCN Rekindles Activities In Abia

The Abia State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has resumed full activities following the resolution of challenges that had disrupted its operations

The development was announced at a management meeting of the council attended by members of the executive, directors, local government coordinators and other key stakeholders.

The meeting focused on the council’s revival, youth development, responsible leadership and the way forward, while former leaders were also recognised for their contributions to the organisation.

Speaking at the meeting, the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Hon. Nwaobabior Ananaba, commended the NYCN Chairman in Abia State, Engr. Smith Sylvanus, and his executive for their efforts towards reviving the council.

He also praised Governor Alex Chioma Otti for his commitment to youth welfare and development in the state, assuring the council of his support in advancing its activities.

Ananaba urged members to remain committed to the ideals and responsibilities of the organisation and to acknowledge the efforts of the state government towards youth development.

In his welcome address, Engr. Sylvanus expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the meeting and welcomed local government coordinators and other stakeholders who converged from across the state.

He described the NYCN as a structured organisation committed to youth development and sustainable progress, noting that the management meeting serves as the council’s highest decision-making platform.

According to him, the meeting provides an opportunity for representatives to deliberate on issues affecting the organisation and take decisions that would guide its activities.

Sylvanus said the meeting was particularly significant as it coincided with the period of the International Youth Day, providing an avenue for stakeholders to reflect on the growth and future of the council.

He acknowledged that the organisation had faced challenges and distractions that affected its operations but said the issues had been resolved, with the council now returning steadily to full activities.

The chairman thanked stakeholders for their prayers, calls and messages of support during the difficult period, describing their encouragement as instrumental to the council’s recovery.

He also urged members to conduct themselves responsibly, stressing that management meetings were serious platforms where representatives were expected to speak and act in the interest of their respective local governments, organisations and constituencies.

A major highlight of the meeting was the presentation of Certificates of Appreciation to former chairmen and leaders of the council in recognition of their contributions to its growth.

Those honoured included the immediate past chairman, Amb. Chidiebere Kanu, Comr. Jerry Onyemachi and other former leaders.

Responding after receiving his certificate, Amb. Kanu thanked the current leadership for recognising his contributions to the council and assured them of his continued support whenever his experience and services were required.

Also speaking, the Director of Youth Empowerment, Mr. Chikezie Chigbo, commended Sylvanus for his resilience and commitment to the revival of the council, expressing optimism that the organisation would continue to make progress.

Similarly, Mrs. Ifeoma Ogbonna applauded the leadership for steering the council through its challenging period and expressed delight over its renewed progress.

The meeting ended with a renewed commitment by the leadership and stakeholders to strengthen the operations of the NYCN, promote responsible representation and advance initiatives aimed at youth development across Abia State.
