NBTE Approves 23 New Programmes for Federal Poly Ukana

August 18, () — The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has approved 23 additional programmes for Federal Polytechnic, Ukana, raising the institution’s total number of programmes to 44.
The approval, which takes effect from the 2026/2027 academic session, represents a major expansion of the Polytechnic’s academic offerings under the administration of its Rector, Mrs. Edumma Enobong Essien.
This was contained in a letter signed by Ayo Aroge, Director, Polytechnic and Allied Programmes, on behalf of the Executive Secretary of the NBTE, and made available by Mr. Manasseh Umoette, Ag. Director of Communication and Other Related Matters, Federal Polytechnic, Ukana.
The newly approved programmes, according to the letter, cut across emerging and conventional fields, including Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Renewable Energy, Mechatronics, Petroleum Marketing, Water Resources Engineering, Civil Engineering, Business Management and Accountancy.
The programmes have received initial approval to run for two years, with a full accreditation and quality assurance visit scheduled for September 2028.
Among the newly approved National Diploma (ND) programmes are Surveying and Geo-Informatics; Estate Management and Valuation; Building Technology; Petroleum Marketing and Business Studies; Crime Management; Artificial Intelligence; Procurement and Supply Chain Management; Mechatronics Engineering Technology; Water Resources Engineering Technology; and Renewable Energy Engineering Technology.
The Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes include Science Laboratory Technology with options in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Physics with Electronics and Environmental Biology; Cyber Security and Data Protection; Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technology with options in Power and Machine, Electronics/Telecommunication, and Instrumentation and Control; Computer Engineering Technology; Civil Engineering Technology; Business Administration and Management; and Accountancy.

It says the expansion is expected to broaden opportunities for students seeking technical and professional education while strengthening the Polytechnic’s capacity to respond to emerging technological and industry demands.
Umoette noted that he development also marks a significant milestone in the administration of Mrs. Essien, whose leadership has overseen the expansion of the institution’s academic offerings.
