The former police chief’s visit to Obi also delivered a political boost to his governorship ambition after the Fulani Youth Development Association for IGP, popularly known as IG YESO YESO, declared its support for his candidacy.
The association, chaired by Hon. Abubakar Ladan, announced the endorsement at a gathering attended by Fulani youths drawn from different parts of Nasarawa State, alongside prominent stakeholders from the community.
The endorsement adds another dimension to Adamu’s ongoing mobilisation as the SDP candidate seeks to broaden his support base among communities and interest groups ahead of the governorship poll.
Adamu also extended his consultations to the traditional institution during the visit, paying royal homage to the traditional ruler of Obi, Alhaji Aliyu Dangiwa Ogiri Orume Osuko, who is Chairman of the Obi Traditional Council of Chiefs.
The palace visit formed part of his engagements with traditional rulers and community leaders as he continues consultations across the state.
Background
Adamu, a retired Inspector-General of Police, is seeking to succeed the current administration in Nasarawa State on the platform of the SDP in the 2027 general election.
His latest activities in Obi underline an expanding grassroots strategy combining economic empowerment with consultations involving youths, traditional rulers and organised community groups.
As the election approaches, Nasarawa is expected to witness intensified political mobilisation by the SDP and rival parties seeking control of the Government House in Lafia.
Adamu’s emergence as the SDP governorship candidate has brought a prominent former security chief into the contest, with his campaign increasingly seeking to translate his national profile and roots in the state into grassroots political support.
The ₦20 million youth empowerment programme and the endorsement by the Fulani youth association therefore represent part of a wider effort by the former police chief to consolidate support across demographic and community blocs ahead of the 2027 governorship battle.
