Iran Launches Fresh Missile Barrage Toward Regional Targets, Warns U.S of ‘Heavier Price’
Iran has launched a fresh wave of missile attacks from multiple locations across the country toward targets in the region, according to Iranian state television, in a major escalation of tensions involving Tehran, the United States and its regional allies.
The reported attacks came amid heightened military confrontation following a U.S strike on Iran’s Larak Island, with Iranian officials signalling that Tehran’s response would extend beyond rhetoric and could involve direct attacks on US military assets in the region.
Reuters reported that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched ballistic missile attacks against two U.S bases in Jordan. The reported strikes were described as retaliation for the American military action against Larak Island. The development represents a significant expansion of the confrontation, particularly because Jordan hosts U.S military facilities and maintains close security cooperation with Washington.
Iran’s Press TV separately reported early Monday, August 31, 2026, that missiles had been directed toward US vessels operating in or around the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, although it did not provide details on the number of missiles fired, the vessels targeted or the extent of any damage.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most strategically important waterways, serving as a major transit route for global energy supplies. Any sustained military confrontation in the area could therefore have consequences extending far beyond the immediate battlefield, potentially affecting shipping, energy markets and regional security.
Meanwhile, Iranian state television reported explosions in the southern city of Sirik, suggesting that the blasts could be connected to Iranian attacks in the Strait of Hormuz. The reports have added another layer of uncertainty to an already volatile security situation, as the extent and precise locations of the latest Iranian military operations remain subject to further confirmation.
As the military confrontation intensified, senior Iranian lawmaker Ebrahim Azizi issued a forceful warning to the United States, declaring that Tehran’s retaliation was far from over.
“Test our will once more, and pay a heavier price,” Azizi wrote on US social media platform X.
He added: “Retaliation is coming; just run!”
Azizi further warned that any attempt to test Iran’s resolve again would result in an even greater cost for its adversaries.
According to the Iranian lawmaker, continued attacks against Iran would only deepen what he characterised as a series of “humiliating defeats” for those confronting Tehran.
“No crime, at any level, will go unanswered,” he said, warning of a “devastating, more painful and instructive” response that would complete what he called a series of defeats.
The latest developments underscore the growing risk that the confrontation could spread across multiple fronts, drawing in U.S military installations, naval assets and regional allies.
With reports of missile launches from Iran, attacks on U.S-linked facilities in Jordan and possible targeting of vessels around the Strait of Hormuz, the conflict is increasingly taking on a broader regional dimension.
The immediate focus will now be on the scale of the reported attacks, potential casualties and damage, as well as Washington’s response. Any further US military action against Iranian territory could trigger another round of Iranian retaliation, creating a potentially dangerous cycle of escalation.
For countries across the Middle East and the wider international community, the Strait of Hormuz remains a particular point of concern. A serious disruption to maritime traffic through the waterway could quickly transform a military confrontation into a broader economic and geopolitical crisis.
For now, Tehran’s message appears unmistakable: Iran is signalling that it intends to retaliate against attacks on its territory and is prepared to widen the scope of its response if further strikes are carried out.
