“I Understood Nigerian Politics Long Before Atiku Found His Footing“ — President Bola Tinubu Blasts Atiku Abubakar
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has drawn attention to his long-standing political experience, asserting that he was already deeply established within Nigeria’s political structure before former Vice President Atiku Abubakar began his journey into partisan politics.
Tinubu, while reflecting on his political history and relationship with Atiku, said he had already earned the trust of Shehu Musa Yar’Adua and established himself as one of the influential political figures within the party hierarchy at a time when Atiku was only beginning to transition from public service into active Politics.
The President stressed that his understanding of Nigeria’s political machinery, its key players and the dynamics of the political terrain predates Atiku’s emergence as a major political actor.
“Even Atiku, who makes so much noise today, met me in Politics at a time when he had only just retired from the Customs Service and entered partisan Politics under the tutelage of Shehu Musa Yar’Adua.
“I was already one of Yar’Adua’s trusted and brightest political minds within the hierarchy of the party.
“I understood the machinery of politics, the people, and the terrain long before Atiku found his footing,” President Tinubu stated.
The remark underscores Tinubu’s attempt to highlight his decades-long involvement in Nigerian politics, particularly his early association with the political network built around the late Shehu Musa Yar’Adua.
It also places a spotlight on the contrasting political trajectories of Tinubu and Atiku, two of Nigeria’s most prominent political figures who have remained major players in the country’s democratic journey for decades.
Tinubu’s comments are likely to generate further reactions within political circles, particularly given the long-standing rivalry and competition between the two leaders and their respective political camps.
