Gov Fubara Reaffirms Peace, Development Agenda

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his commitment to peace, unity and sustainable development, declaring that the state will not be allowed to return to political crisis and instability.

Fubara stated this on Monday while inaugurating the Omademe Internal Roads in Ikwerre Local Government Area, the sixth project commissioned in the current phase of his administration’s project inauguration exercise.

He urged political leaders, traditional rulers and other stakeholders to support efforts to sustain peace, stressing that meaningful and lasting development could only thrive in a stable environment.

The governor said Rivers had passed through challenging periods but was now focused on building a peaceful, united and prosperous future.

According to him, the true measure of governance is the positive impact an administration makes on the lives of the people and not merely the number of years spent in office.

He assured residents that his administration would continue to deliver people-oriented projects until the expiration of its tenure.

The Omademe Internal Roads project comprises 10 roads spanning about 8.6 kilometres, with widths ranging from six to 7.3 metres. It also includes about 8.7 kilometres of drainage channels and three kilometres of earthfall discharge drains to improve accessibility, check flooding and stimulate economic activities.

Fubara said his administration remained committed to building on the achievements of previous governments while delivering infrastructure that would improve the living conditions of Rivers people.

He assured the Omademe community that its requests for the extension of the road network to neighbouring communities in Etche Local Government Area, improved electricity supply and rehabilitation of adjoining roads would receive government attention.

On the ongoing verification of local government workers, the governor said the exercise was designed to sanitise the payroll, eliminate ghost workers and ensure that only genuine employees received salaries.

He maintained that while the government supported job creation, recruitment into the local government service must follow due process and should not be subjected to political considerations.

Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area, Hon. Wobodo Charles, described the project as a major boost to peace and development, saying it would ease the movement of farm produce, improve commercial activities and open up Omademe for greater economic growth.

Commissioner for Works, Prof. Temple Nwofor, said the project, awarded to Cedar Construction Limited on February 24, 2025, commenced in November 2025 and was completed according to approved specifications.

He said the roads would improve mobility, strengthen connectivity and boost socio-economic activities in Omademe and surrounding communities.

Managing Director of Cedar Construction Limited, Dr. Bobby Elechi, thanked the governor for awarding the project to an indigenous company and commended the Omademe community and relevant government agencies for their cooperation during the execution of the project.
