GOSPEL SINGER SENTENCED TO DEATH BY HANGING FOR BRUTAL MURDER OF NYSC MEMBER IN NASARAWA

Gospel Singer Sentenced to Death by Hanging for Brutal Murder of NYSC Member in Nasarawa”

Lafia, Nasarawa State – In a ruling that has shocked the nation, a High Court sitting in Lafia has sentenced a popular gospel singer, Oluwatimileyin Ajayi, to death by hanging for the murder and dismemberment of a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Salome Adaidu.

The ruling was delivered by Justice Simon Aboki, who found Ajayi guilty of the gruesome crime that took the life of the young corps member. The judge ruled that the evidence presented by the prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt that the gospel singer intentionally killed and dismembered the victim.

According to court documents, Ajayi was convicted on a single count of culpable homicide, contrary to Section 221 of the Penal Code of Northern Nigeria, which carries the death penalty. The law stipulates death by hanging as the punishment for anyone found guilty of such an offense.

Salome Adaidu, a promising young Nigerian who was serving her mandatory NYSC program, reportedly met her tragic end at the hands of Ajayi under disturbing circumstances. The motive behind the crime has not been made fully public, but investigators described the incident as one of the most horrific acts of violence involving a public figure in recent memory.

The court’s decision has drawn widespread reactions from citizens, legal experts, and human rights observers. Many have applauded the ruling, describing it as justice for the deceased and a deterrent to others. However, some have also reignited conversations about the death penalty and its application in Nigeria’s legal system.

Ajayi, who was known for his uplifting gospel music and strong Christian following, showed no visible emotion as the verdict was read. His legal team is yet to comment on whether they intend to file an appeal.

The tragic death of Salome Adaidu has once again raised alarm over the safety of corps members in their places of assignment and their interactions with the public, especially individuals in positions of trust.
