He expressed appreciation to the governor in French, saying, “Merci beaucoup”, meaning “Thank you very much”, and prayed for God’s continued blessings, wisdom and good health for him.

The reunion was also an opportunity for Eno to restate his administration’s commitment to improving education in Akwa Ibom State, particularly teachers’ welfare and working conditions.

The governor said his administration, following its declaration of a state of emergency in the education sector, was determined to raise educational standards and provide functional accommodation for teachers in secondary schools, similar to facilities established in model primary schools across the state’s 31 local government areas.

He commended the school’s alumni association for organising the event to celebrate Moore, describing the recognition of the veteran teacher as a worthy way to appreciate the contributions of educators to the development of society.

Eno also urged Akwa Ibom people to learn, speak and preserve their indigenous languages, stressing the importance of protecting the state’s cultural heritage for future generations.

The governor’s visit took another dimension when he expressed sadness over the death of a young Akwa Ibom indigene serving with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Enugu.

He said he would visit the bereaved family on Saturday, October 17, and called on the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly to join the National Assembly in constituting an inquiry panel to establish the circumstances surrounding the corps member’s death.

Earlier, Professor Etiben Akpan, who welcomed the governor on behalf of the school community, commended his visit and acknowledged his commitment to the development of the state.

The president of the alumni association, Mr Samuel Uko, also thanked Eno for honouring their former teacher, describing the gesture as an encouragement to educators whose contributions often extend far beyond the classroom.

Speaking on behalf of the governor’s entourage, Hon. Frank Archibong commended the reunion, while assuring Eno of the support of the people of Eket.

The Clan Head of Okon, HRH Akpabio Ekpoton, expressed appreciation to the governor for visiting the rural community to honour Moore, describing the visit as a demonstration of respect for teachers and recognition of their lasting influence on their students.

He prayed for the governor’s continued strength and good health.
