Social media personality and journalist and All Progressives Congress (APC) Chieftain in Anambra State, Eneh Victor Chigozie, has criticized Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, over what he described as the absence of practical investment in the growth and development of the renowned Akwete textile industry.

Eneh argued that while Governor Soludo promoted the use of Akwete fabric soon after assuming office in 2022 and encouraged its cultural adoption through various initiatives, the administration failed to back the campaign with concrete investments capable of transforming the industry into a major economic hub.
According to him, there were no textile production facilities established, no financial support extended to local producers, and no deliberate efforts to attract investors who could scale up production and create jobs within the sector.
He contrasted the situation with developments in neighboring Abia State, where Governor Dr. Alex Otti has embarked on practical measures to revive and expand the Akwete textile industry through the deployment of modern technology, the acquisition of advanced machinery, and specialized training aimed at increasing local production and improving the competitiveness of the famous fabric.
Eneh further pointed to the recent visit of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to Abia State, where she acknowledged the progress recorded in the Akwete textile industry. During the visit, the First Lady also announced a ₦2 billion support package to further strengthen the industry’s growth and expand its economic impact.
He maintained that while promoting indigenous culture remains important, meaningful progress requires strategic investments that empower local producers, attract private capital, create employment opportunities, and position Akwete textile as a globally competitive industry.
