Tinubu Expected To Commission 39 Projects In Sept To Mark Anniversary

• 39 projects across roads, healthcare, education and tourism to be commissioned between September 1 and 30.

August 28, () — The Akwa Ibom State Government has announced plans to commission 39 projects across the state as part of activities marking the 39th anniversary of the creation of the state.

The projects, which cut across road infrastructure, healthcare, education and tourism, are scheduled for commissioning between September 1 and 30, 2026.

Commissioner for Information, Hon. Aniekan Umanah, disclosed this on Thursday during the August edition of the state government’s Ministerial Press Briefing at the Government House Press Centre, Uyo.

Umanah said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to visit Akwa Ibom as special guest of honour during the anniversary celebrations and unveil some of the projects.

Among the projects lined up for commissioning is the ARISE Palm Resort on Brooks Street, Uyo, as well as other strategic infrastructure projects executed by the Governor Umo Eno administration.

The Commissioner said the anniversary programme would also feature a state inter-denominational thanksgiving service on September 20 at the International Christian Worship Centre, Banking Layout, off Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo.

A State Banquet is scheduled for September 23 at the ARISE Palm Resort to commemorate the creation of Akwa Ibom State out of the former Cross River State on September 23, 1987.

Umanah said the projects and other interventions reflected the administration’s people-centred development philosophy and its commitment to improving the welfare and living conditions of residents.

He disclosed that the government had so far cleared ₦90.6 billion out of the ₦111 billion gratuity liability inherited by the administration, leaving a balance of about ₦20.4 billion.

The Commissioner appealed to pensioners to remain patient, assuring them that the outstanding liability would be cleared by the administration.
