Abia State Govt to Empower Over 17,000 Farmers as Gov. Alex Otti Flag-Off Major Agricultural Support Programme
The Abia State Government is set to launch a major agricultural intervention programme that will see more than 17,000 farmers across the state receive essential farming inputs in a renewed effort to boost food production, improve livelihoods, and strengthen the state’s agricultural sector.
The Farmers’ Inputs Support Programme, an initiative of the Abia State Ministry of Agriculture, is designed to provide farmers with critical agricultural inputs that will enhance productivity, increase crop yields, and promote sustainable economic growth. The programme is themed “Improved Inputs, Increased Yields, Sustainable Prosperity for Farmers.”
The official flag-off ceremony will take place on Friday, July 10, 2026, at the Umuahia Township Stadium, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
Governor Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, will perform the official launch of the programme, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to transforming agriculture into a key pillar of Abia State’s economy through increased investment, job creation, and improved food security.
The initiative underscores the state’s determination to equip farmers with the resources needed to improve farm productivity while expanding opportunities within the agricultural value chain.
The event will be hosted by the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Cliff Agbaeze, FCIB, whose ministry has continued to implement policies and programmes aimed at supporting farmers and accelerating agricultural development across the state.
The state government has extended invitations to members of the farming community, agricultural stakeholders, development partners, traditional rulers, community leaders, and the general public to witness what is expected to be another significant milestone in the ongoing transformation of agriculture in Abia State.
The Farmers’ Inputs Support Programme is expected to further reinforce the Otti administration’s drive to position agriculture as a sustainable engine for economic growth, food sufficiency, and rural development while improving the welfare of thousands of farmers across the state.
