Abia State Govt Revives Enyimba Shoe, Garment Factories as Production Resumes, Targets Global Market
The Abia State Government has announced a major turnaround in the fortunes of the Enyimba Automated Shoe Company and the Enyimba Garments Factory in Aba, revealing that both state-owned industries have returned to full-scale production after years of inactivity.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed this on Wednesday while briefing journalists on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council meeting presided over by State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR.
Prince Kanu attributed the remarkable transformation of the two factories to the far-reaching reforms introduced by the Otti-led administration and the appointment of Ms. Nena Kalu Ogba to oversee the companies in 2025.
He said the renewed focus on innovation, strategic planning and efficient resource management has repositioned both factories for sustainable growth and competitiveness.
“Presently, both factories have been restored into active manufacturing outfits through innovation, strategic planning and prudent management of available resources.
“To date, they have been able to establish five production lines for both factories, and the new management are going ahead to develop new brand lines for their products that are capable of competing in international markets,” Prince Kanu stated.
He noted that the revival of the companies underscores the present administration’s unwavering commitment to industrialization, job creation and sustainable economic growth, adding that the initiative aligns with Governor Otti’s vision of restoring Aba’s status as Nigeria’s foremost manufacturing and industrial hub.
Also speaking, the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Enyimba Automated Shoe Company Limited and Enyimba Garment Factory Limited, Ms. Nena Kalu Ogba, said the state government had successfully revived the two factories through the acquisition of modern production and finishing equipment designed to enable them compete with leading global brands.
Ms. Ogba-Kalu explained that the intervention was deliberately targeted at changing the long-standing perception that Aba-made products were inferior in quality.
She disclosed that extensive rehabilitation works had transformed the factories into modern, conducive production environments equipped to meet international manufacturing standards.
She further revealed that workers’ welfare has significantly improved, with salaries now being paid regularly, creating a more motivated and productive workforce.
According to her, the facilities are now fully equipped to manufacture premium-quality footwear and garments capable of meeting international standards, positioning the Enyimba Automated Shoe Company and Enyimba Garments Factory to compete favourably in both local and global markets.
The revival of the two factories is expected to stimulate economic activities, create employment opportunities, strengthen Aba’s industrial ecosystem and further reinforce the Abia State Government’s drive to rebuild public enterprises into profitable and globally
competitive businesses.
