Eighty-five political appointees from Ukwa La Ngwa extraction serving in the administration of Governor Alex Otti, have endorsed his re-election bid, declaring their “continued, unalloyed and determined support” for the governor ahead of the 2027 election.

The appointees, who were joined by nine mayors from the zone, also rejected attempts to portray the people of Ukwa as being opposed to the Otti led administration.

The position was contained in an eight point resolution signed by the appointees and read by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Uzo Nwachukwu, at a press conference on Thursday at the JAAC Secretariat, Umuahia.

Prince Nwachukwu said the resolution represents a firm commitment by the appointees to the governor and the people of Ukwa La Ngwa.

The appointees said they identified with governor Otti’s policies and acknowledged what they described as the governor’s developmental interventions across Abia, particularly in Ukwa la Ngwa land.

They also declared their readiness to resist what they considered attempts by politicians to exploit ethnic sentiments in their campaigns against the governor.

“That we shall stoutly resist, within the limits of legitimate democratic engagement, any attempt by any politician or group of politicians to denigrate our people and present in a negative light our very beautiful relationship with our son, the Governor, and his administration”.

The group further stated that sons and daughters of Ukwa-La-Ngwa were adequately represented in the Otti led administration and were contributing to its development agenda.

It urged those using the Ukwa-La-Ngwa political platform to advance what it described as personal political ambitions to desist from such actions and stressed that political disagreement should remain decent and mature.

“We respect and encourage the free expression of political opinions, including the right to decent and mature dissent”.

They, however, opposed what they described as attempts to give campaigns against Governor Otti a sub-ethnic dimension.

The appointees said: “The infantile narratives about whether Governor Alex Otti is Ngwa or not are not only unfortunate but connote an absolute lack of knowledge or idiocy.

“Not even Dr Alex Otti can reverse, after three generations before him, the fact of his land of birth and the potency of the earth that hosts his umbilical cord after birth.

“No one decides such human fate for themselves; only God does. Therefore, we will not descend to the level of responding to such retarded arguments.

“In any case, we also believe that the incisive and didactic articles scripted by one of us, Barrister Ememanka, in response to those who might be arguing in ignorance, have firmly rested the matter”.

The group also urged the people of Ukwa-La-Ngwa to remain calm and allow the present administration to continue with its development programme and reaffirmed its support for Governor Otti’s re-election in 2027.

Also speaking, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, called for issue-based campaigns ahead of the 2027 elections and urged political actors to focus on the challenges confronting Abia rather than resorting to divisive rhetoric.

He said it was unrealistic to expect the present administration to reverse the effects of 24 years of maladministration within three years.

“It will be a kind of disfigured expectation and misplaced priority for anyone to expect that, within 24 years of what Abia has passed through, three years would be enough to fix it”, Pastor Ajagba said.

The Chief of staff maintained that the Otto led administration would remain focused on its development agenda and would not be distracted by political attacks.

He said that the intervention by the appointees was aimed at clarifying what he described as attempts to present personal political interests as the collective position of the people.
