Nollywood Film ‘Black Market’ Targets Guinness World Record With 50,000-Person Screening

July 10 () — Rixel Studios is set to release ‘Black Market’, a new Nollywood feature that will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest film screening at a single venue.

The film stars Lateef Adedimeji and Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman in lead roles.

The studio officially announced the project on Thursday, July 9, describing ‘Black Market’ as its second feature film after ‘Red Circle’, which was released in 2025.

Written by Abdul Tijani-Ahmed and Fatimah Binta Gimsay, the film will premiere on September 26, 2026, at Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos.

In partnership with FilmOne Studios, Switch Visuals Production, and Signet Ring Studios, the producers aim to gather 50,000 people for the premiere in an official attempt to break the current Guinness World Record of 43,624 people watching a film at one location.

Rixel Studios team lead Nora Awolowo said the project reflects the company’s focus on creativity and innovation.

“We are excited to go on this journey as a team and we have taken a lot of learnings from our previous film. As young filmmakers, one of our aims is to continue to creatively look for ways to innovate,” she said.

FilmOne Studios Chief Content Officer Ladun Awobokun described the planned premiere as an opportunity to showcase Nigerian creativity and Nollywood on a global stage.

Switch Visuals Production CEO Damilola Osikoya also said the project highlights the power of collaboration and bold ideas among young creatives.

Directed by Fatimah Binta Gimsay and shot in Abeokuta, Ogun State, ‘Black Market’ features an ensemble cast including Itele D Icon, Scarlet Gomez, Omowunmi Dada, Susan Pwajok, and Uzor Arukwe.

Gimsay said the team focused on creating an entertaining film for audiences.

“From day one, we were determined to make a fun film, and we made it with the best people. This was a great challenge for everyone and we can’t wait to share it with the world,” she said.

If successful, the premiere will set a new Guinness World Record and further highlight Nollywood’s growing influence on the global stage.
