June 26 () — The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old suspected armed robber, Samson Onilewaji, after he was allegedly found in possession of a suspected human body part, firearms, a Point of Sale (POS) machine, and multiple Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.

The arrest was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, who said the suspect was apprehended after police operatives intercepted an unregistered commercial shuttle bus carrying six occupants and conducted a comprehensive search of the vehicle and its passengers.

According to the statement, officers recovered a suspected human right hand, two locally made pistols, one live cartridge, two axes, a POS terminal machine, and five ATM cards from the suspect.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Onilewaji allegedly confessed to robbing three persons and dispossessing them of their valuables, including the recovered POS machine and ATM cards.

The police said efforts are ongoing to identify and contact the victims to facilitate the return of the recovered items to their rightful owners.

The Command also disclosed that investigators are working to establish the identity of the owner of the suspected human hand and unravel the circumstances surrounding its possession and intended use.

It added that efforts have been intensified to track down and arrest other individuals who may be connected to the suspect and the alleged crimes.

According to the police, the suspect will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Reacting to the arrest, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Olaiwola Fatai, reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to sustain its crackdown on armed robbery and other violent crimes across the state.
