It has been three years of what many stakeholders have described as purposeful, people-centered, and visible representation for the Member Representing Isiala Ngwa North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rep. Hon. Ginger Obinna Onwusibe (Onwu Ntigha).
Since his inauguration on June 13, 2023, Hon. Onwusibe has continued to make significant contributions both on the floor of the National Assembly and within his constituency through legislative initiatives, infrastructural development, human capital empowerment, education support, healthcare interventions, and agricultural development.
As he marks his third year in office, a review of his stewardship reveals a robust record of achievements aimed at improving the living conditions of the people of Isiala Ngwa North and South Federal Constituency.
LEGISLATIVE INTERVENTIONS AND MOTIONS:-
Within the period under review, Hon. Onwusibe sponsored and moved several motions addressing critical national and regional issues. Among them was a motion seeking a political solution to the detention of Nnamdi Kanu, advocating for his release as a pathway to restoring peace and stability in the South-East region.
He also moved motions calling for the reactivation of the abandoned Nsulu Games Village in Umuala Nsulu, a review of the increment in Nigerian Law School tuition fees in consideration of prevailing economic hardships, intervention in the devastating gully erosion threatening Umuosu Nsulu Community, and an urgent investigation into the fatal shooting of Mr. Nkemjika Nwogu a personnel of the Nigerian Navy in Nbawsi, Isiala Ngwa North.
LANDMARK BILLS SPONSORED:-
Hon. Onwusibe’s legislative impact is further reflected in the bills he sponsored at the National Assembly.
A bill seeking the establishment of a College of Entrepreneurship and Skill Acquisition in Ntigha, Isiala Ngwa North, successfully passed third reading. Another bill establishing a Federal Medical Centre in Isiala Ngwa North also passed third reading, bringing the constituency closer to having a major federal healthcare institution.
Additionally, he sponsored the bill for the creation of Aba State, which has already scaled second reading in the House of Representatives.
MASSIVE HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT AND EMPOWERMENT:-
Recognizing the importance of economic empowerment, Hon. Onwusibe initiated several programmes aimed at boosting entrepreneurship and reducing unemployment.
Notably, over 1,000 beneficiaries received ₦50,000 business support grants from selected communities across the constituency. He also facilitated employment opportunities for 14 constituents in various federal establishments, both on permanent and temporary appointments.
Several vocational and skills acquisition programmes were organized, including training in tailoring, soap making, cream production, paint manufacturing, information and communication technology, and other income-generating ventures.
In addition, 1,000 constituents benefited from ICT and vocational training programmes, alongside startup capital grants of ₦50,000 each.
