INEC Disowns Fake Poster Claiming Reaffirmation Of David Mark-Led ADC Leadership

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disowned a poster circulating on social media claiming that it has reaffirmed the Senator David Mark-led leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The Commission described the publication as fake, insisting that it did not originate from INEC.

In a clarification titled, “Fake Poster On ADC Leadership,” the electoral body said the poster and accompanying text falsely claimed that the Commission had reaffirmed the leadership of the former Senate President.

INEC also disclosed that the unauthorised publication featured its official logo and the image of National Commissioner, Mohammed Haruna, without the Commission’s approval.

“For the avoidance of doubt, INEC has issued no such reaffirmation,” the Commission stated.

It consequently urged members of the public to disregard the publication in its entirety and rely only on information disseminated through its official and verified communication channels.

The clarification comes amid the controversy surrounding the leadership of the ADC following the November 5 judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which nullified the processes that produced the David Mark-led leadership of the party.

The development has generated reactions within the opposition party, particularly over the political implications of the court decision and the status of its leadership ahead of the 2027 general elections.

However, as of the time of filing this report, the David Mark-led National Executive of the ADC remained listed on INEC’s official website as the party’s national leadership.

Similarly, the names of former Vice-President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and his running mate, Rotimi Amaechi, remained on the Commission’s published list of the party’s presidential candidates for the 2027 general elections.

The development indicates that, despite the controversy generated by the court judgment and INEC’s disowning of the purported reaffirmation, the Commission’s online records had yet to reflect any changes to the ADC leadership and presidential candidate listings.
