Our Road Needs Urgent Attention’: Umuoba Residents Raise Alarm as Echezona Vanguard Visits Community

 

The State Leadership of the Echezona Street Vanguard for Dr. Alex Chioma Otti on Sunday, October 4, 2026, paid a courtesy and assessment visit to the Umuoba Road Face 2 Chapter of the organization as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots engagement and deepen community participation.

The visit formed part of the Vanguard’s ongoing grassroots engagement programme, designed to strengthen its presence at the street level, interact directly with residents, listen to their concerns, identify community needs and further communicate the vision and objectives of the Echezona Street Vanguard to the people.

GRASSROOTS REMAIN THE FOUNDATION

Addressing residents of Umuoba Road, the State Chairman, Comrade Michael Chijioke Amaku (McBoss), welcomed the community into the family of the Echezona Street Vanguard.

He emphasized that meaningful political participation and sustainable development begin at the grassroots, where landlords, tenants, youths, women and community leaders have the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities.

He encouraged residents to remain actively involved in civic and democratic activities while paying close attention to government programmes and policies that directly affect their daily lives.

The State Leadership also urged eligible residents to ensure that their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) are available, valid and properly kept ahead of future electoral activities.

The message was clear: every eligible citizen should be prepared to participate peacefully, responsibly and actively in the democratic process.

LISTENING TO THE PEOPLE OF UMUOBA ROAD

A major issue raised during the visit was the poor condition of Umuoba Road, which residents said has continued to create difficulties for members of the community, businesses, motorists and other road users.

The State Chairman acknowledged the concerns raised by the residents and assured them that their grievances would be properly communicated through the appropriate channels, with the expectation that the relevant government authorities would give the matter the necessary attention.

The visit therefore provided an opportunity not only for the Vanguard leadership to engage with the community but also to listen directly to residents, understand their challenges and document issues requiring appropriate intervention.

COMMENDATION FOR COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP

The State Chairman specially commended the Chairman of the Landlords’ Association, Comrade Ikechukwu Igwe, for his leadership, commitment to the welfare of residents and demonstrated interest in the development of Umuoba Road.

He noted that responsible community leadership, active citizenship and constructive engagement between residents and government are essential ingredients for sustainable community development.

UMUOBA ROAD REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO DEMOCRATIC PARTICIPATION

Speaking on behalf of the landlords, tenants and residents of Umuoba Road, community members recalled their participation in previous elections and reaffirmed their commitment to democratic participation.

The residents, however, noted that there are still areas where they expect greater government attention, particularly in the areas of infrastructure and community development.

They expressed hope that Umuoba Road would receive appropriate consideration in future development interventions and that the concerns of residents would continue to be communicated through constructive engagement with relevant authorities.
