The Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, has approved the constitution of the Abia State Labour Party Governorship Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 governorship election, unveiling a broad leadership structure comprising state directors, zonal coordinators and state constituency coordinators across the 17 local government areas of the state.

The newly constituted council places Governor Otti as Chairman, with the Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, serving as Vice Chairman.
The announcement, contained in a press release signed by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, on Friday, October 2, 2026, marks a major organisational step by the Labour Party as preparations for the 2027 governorship election gather momentum in Abia.
At the state level, Rt. Hon. Agwu U. Agwu has been appointed Director-General of the campaign council, while Dr. Eric Egwuibe will serve as Director of Finance.
Dr. Chibuzor Obiesili is Director of Strategy/Planning, with Mr. Kelechi Nwaiwu, SAN, appointed Director of Legal.
Barr. Onyebuchi Ememanka will oversee Publicity, while Dr. Christian Anokwuru will serve as Director of Special Duties.
AIG Arungwa Nwazue (Rtd.) will head the campaign council’s Security Directorate.
The campaign structure also establishes three zonal coordination positions covering Abia Central, Abia North and Abia South.
Professor Udochukwu Ogbonna will coordinate Abia Central, Chief Emeka Charles Kalu will coordinate Abia North, while Hon. Chimaobi Ebisike will coordinate Abia South.
Beyond the zonal structure, the campaign council has appointed coordinators for the various State Constituencies, creating a constituency-level framework for the party’s 2027 campaign activities.
The constituency coordinators include Mr. Innocent Eleogu for Ikwuano; Dr. Obioma Orji for Isiala Ngwa North; Hon. Dannie Ubani for Isiala Ngwa South; Mr. Emmanuel Maduforo Ufomba for Osisioma North; and Mr. Innocent Enyinnaya Anyanwu for Osisioma South.
For Umuahia, the appointments are Col. Emeka Chilaka (Rtd.) for Umuahia Central, Chief Okey Onyemuwa for Umuahia East, Dr. Aham Uko for Umuahia North and Hon. Jerry Uzosike for Umuahia South.
In Bende, Mr. Ikerionwu Okarimie will coordinate Bende South, while Mr. Silas Eke takes charge of Bende North.
Mr. Emmanuel Okoronkwo is the coordinator for Isuikwuato, with Hon. Mandela Obasi and Mr. Kalu Ukwu Uduma appointed for Ohafia North and Ohafia South respectively.
Mr. Kingsley C. Uchechukwu will coordinate Umunneochi, while the Aba axis will be coordinated by Chief Shaka Dimgba Obasi for Aba Central, Mr. George Ezeikpe Okeiyi for Aba North and Mr. Chidi Onyendi for Aba South.
Other appointments include Mr. Ndubisi Obioha Christopher for Obingwa East, Mr. Jap Nnamdi Onwunali for Obingwa West, Dr. Temple Nwosu for Ugwunagbo, Hon. Paul Taribo for Ukwa East, Hon. Ralph Egbu for Ukwa West and Chief Okezie Azuma for Arochukwu.
The constitution of the campaign council provides a multi-level structure linking the state leadership with the three senatorial zones and individual state constituencies, with the various appointees expected to coordinate campaign activities within their respective areas.
The inauguration of the newly constituted Abia State Labour Party Governorship Campaign Council has been scheduled for Monday, October 5, 2026, at 12 noon at the Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia.
According to the announcement, all members are expected to be seated before the arrival of Governor Otti for the inauguration.
The development comes as political parties and aspirants across Abia intensify preparations for the 2027 elections, with campaign organisations increasingly putting in place structures designed to coordinate grassroots engagement, publicity, logistics, strategy and mobilisation across the state.
