As Nigeria Turns 66, ASTOPU Chairman, Chinweotito Appolos Urges Nigerians to Reject Despair, Embrace Hope and Build a Greater Nation
The Chairman of the Abia State Tricycle Operators Union (ASTOPU), Umuahia Zone, Comrade Chinweotito Godson Appolos, has called on Nigerians to remain hopeful, resilient and committed to the collective task of building a stronger and more prosperous nation as Nigeria marks her 66th Independence Anniversary.
Appolos, in his Independence Day message, described the anniversary as more than a commemoration of Nigeria’s attainment of independence, saying it is also an opportunity for citizens to reflect on the nation’s journey, celebrate its resilience and renew their commitment to its progress.

He said Nigeria remains a country of enormous possibilities, stressing that the nation’s greatest strength lies not only in its natural resources but also in the creativity, enterprise, courage and resilience of its people.
According to him, millions of Nigerians continue to demonstrate remarkable determination every day by working, providing for their families, building businesses and contributing in various ways to the growth of the economy.
The ASTOPU Umuahia Zonal chairman particularly highlighted the contributions of transport operators and other grassroots stakeholders, noting that their daily activities play an important role in keeping communities connected and economic activities moving.
He said tricycle operators contribute to society by connecting people, supporting businesses and facilitating movement, adding that their collective efforts form part of the broader economic activities sustaining communities across the country.
Appolos urged Nigerians not to lose faith in the country despite the challenges confronting the nation, emphasising that building the Nigeria of the people’s dreams requires the collective responsibility of government and citizens.
He called for greater emphasis on integrity, unity, hard work, discipline and mutual respect, while urging Nigerians to reject division and despair.
The ASTOPU leader also encouraged citizens to recognise their individual responsibilities in national development, saying the desired Nigeria cannot be built by government alone.
He urged Nigerians to continue supporting one another and respecting the country’s diversity, while encouraging parents and other community leaders to instil patriotism and a sense of responsibility in younger generations.
Addressing members of ASTOPU, Appolos commended their dedication, patience and sacrifices, urging them to continue conducting themselves with discipline, professionalism and respect for passengers, fellow operators and the communities they serve.
He expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future, saying the 66th Independence Anniversary should serve as a moment to renew the people’s faith in the country and strengthen their determination to contribute positively to its development.
“Nigeria will rise. Nigeria will prosper. And together, we shall build the Nigeria of our dreams,” Appolos declared.
He wished Nigerians a peaceful and memorable 66th Independence Anniversary and prayed for continued progress, unity and prosperity for the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
