Former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso has urged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to step down for him ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Kwankwaso, who is also the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party in the 2023 election, reportedly made the appeal while discussing the possibility of a political arrangement ahead of 2027.

“Step down for us, we’ll take care of you if we win presidency,” Kwankwaso was quoted as telling Atiku.

The statement has since generated reactions on social media, with some Nigerians describing the offer as an opportunity Atiku should consider, while others questioned what Kwankwaso meant by promising to “take care” of the former vice president.
