Delta High Court Remands ‘Odogwu Asaba’ Over Alleged Rape, Death of 20-Year-Old

A Delta State High Court has ordered that content creator Ifeanyi Ogbonna, popularly known as Odogwu Asaba, be remanded at the Ogwashi-Uku Maximum Correctional Centre over allegations surrounding the rape and death of 20-year-old Favour Agbro.

The court granted the remand application on Friday, September 4, 2026, following the conclusion of Police investigations into the case.

The lawyer representing Favour’s family, Awele Ideal, announced the development in a statement on Friday. She also disclosed that the results of the autopsy and toxicology examinations had been released to the Police investigation team.

“Today the 4/9/2026, The application to remand Mr Ifeanyi Ogbonna (Odogwu Asaba) was heard and granted by the Court. He has now been Remanded at the Ogwashi Uku Maximum Correctional Center (Prison), from there he shall be brought to court until the completion of his trial which now lies with the Ministry of Justice (AG and DPP),” she said.

According to Ideal, the autopsy and toxicology findings, together with other evidence gathered during the investigation, have been included in the investigation report prepared for the prosecution and trial of the case.

She explained that she was representing Favour’s family on a pro bono basis and would continue providing both legal services and financial assistance to ensure that the case was fully pursued.

“I still hold the brief of this case for late Favour’s family on Probono basis rendering my legal services and financial support to ensure that no stone is left unturned,” she said.

Ideal further promised to keep the public informed as developments unfold in the case, adding, “Justice is everyone’s business.”

The remand was also confirmed by the Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Media, Ossai Ovie Success.

In a Facebook post on Friday, Ossai disclosed that Ogbonna had been taken to the correctional facility following the court’s ruling.

“Court Remands Ifeanyi Ogbonna, ‘Odogwu Asaba,’ Over Late Favour’s Case,” he wrote.

Ossai explained that the court’s decision came after the autopsy and toxicology results were released to the Police investigation team.

According to him, those results, along with other evidence collected during the investigation, had been incorporated into the report prepared for prosecution and trial.

He added that Ogbonna would remain in custody and would be brought before the court as proceedings in the case continue.

Police had earlier arrested Ogbonna following allegations that he raped Favour, who subsequently died after ingesting a toxic substance.

The case drew widespread public attention after reports emerged that Favour had recorded a video before her death in which she spoke about her alleged encounter with the content creator.

According to reports surrounding the case, Favour had travelled to Asaba after she was allegedly invited by Ogbonna to participate in a content creation training programme advertised on social media.

She was later allegedly taken to a hotel, where Ogbonna was accused of raping and assaulting her.

After returning home, Favour reportedly informed her parents about what allegedly happened and recorded a video in which she narrated her account of the incident.

She later ingested a toxic substance and died.

Following a petition submitted by Favour’s family, the Delta State Commissioner of Police directed the Effurun Area Command to investigate the allegations.

The investigation subsequently led to Ogbonna’s arrest.

Police continued their investigation into the circumstances surrounding Favour’s death, while autopsy and toxicology examinations were carried out as part of efforts to establish what happened.

With the remand order now granted, the case is moving from the investigation stage towards prosecution.

The Delta State Ministry of Justice is expected to take over the matter through the Attorney-General and Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Ogbonna remains presumed innocent unless and until he is found guilty by a court of law.
